1st Blog in science class

Monday: On Monday we started to design our aprons. My element is Linkium.  We have not finished them yet but it will be fun to finish them. We also started to do our first science notes.  That day was pretty fun. Here is a link to see some of the aprons.  It looks like we are going to get some serious and fun science experiments.

Tuesday: On Tuesday we set up blogger and twitter.  We did our first tweet on Tuesday too. We were studying precision and accuracy and Mrs. G had and idea of throwing a tennis ball at Chad, so he put on a football helmet and he had an apple on the top of the helmet, we drew a target behind him and Mrs. G threw the ball and Lauren marked were it was.  That was fun to watch. Here is a link to the picture of Chad. This was a nice way to make it clear that precision and accuracy are different.

Wednesday: On Wednesday we were studying water displacement. Our team started by putting  a 50ml water in a graduated cylinder. Then we put either a rock or a marble or a fishing weight in. We put the rock in and then we measured how much the water rose. In science class we always love to go big. This part was really fun, so Kyler changed into his bathing suit and he went in to a trash can filled with water and we had a kiddie pool under so we could catch the water. Kyler got out and he dried off while we were measuring the water in the kiddie pool. Then we took our calculator and divided the mass of Kyler by his volume and got his density. This was an exciting way of to see by example water displacement, mass, volume, and density.

Thursday: On Thursday we started off with starting our volume and density lab. The first thing we did was put different liquid densities in a graduated cylinder. First we put 10 ml of honey in and then  we put 10 ml of corn syrup in, then we put in 10 ml of milk in.  After that we let it sit for a while. It was very interesting the way the milk settled in. Then we put in 10 ml of dish soap , we had to pour super slow so the soap would go to the bottom.  After that we put 10 ml of water then 10 ml of vegetable oil and finally 10 ml of rubbing alcohol.  Here is a picture of what it looked like this was a fun way of measuring and seeing density.

Friday: On Friday we had a lot of fun.  We had a quiz!!! The quiz was not as hard as I thought it would be but it was a little challenging.  I am looking forward to seeing my results on paper.  The quiz was about studying chemistry & the process of science. Before we had the quiz our teacher sent us a link to a practice quiz. It only only had 18 questions but I got 16 right, so I think I did a good job of studying.  Ok I will blog more next week.  Happy Labor Day!
